“Climbing the Food Chain: Business Success from the Ocean’s Depths” - by Scott W. Gonnello. Reviewed by The Rev. Fr. John J. Leahy – Pastor of Saint Mary of the Angel’s Church, Orlando, Florida.

When Scott ask if I would offer a review of his book I was delighted not only because Scott has become a good friend of St. Mary’s but also because I found his approach to defining business solutions to be a great help in St. Mary’s redefining our mission and vision. I believe that the books greatest attribute is its simplicity. Scott has taken his love of the sea and used that to effectively help any organization map out a vision and mission strategy by utilizing the concept of the oceans natural process of the “food chain.”

Scott’s ability to take what happens in all of nature and to use that as a tool to uniquely address a new approach to business solutions can be utilized by all types of organizations.

Scott also is a very effective facilitator in helping an organization understand his concepts and to map out a “compass direction” based on what the organization develops as their unique “buoy markers.”

I highly recommend Scott and “Climbing the Food Chain: Business Success from the Ocean’s Depths” to anyone looking for a new and fresh approach to navigating the waters of success.

Upon meeting Scott Gonnello five years ago, I discovered a very motivated and creative person, filled with positive energy.

We began to discuss my future plans of establishing my own art school. I realized quickly that Scott had a tremendous amount of experience as an entrepreneur. He shared many examples of successful and unsuccessful businesses; why they succeed and why they do not. He began to ask me questions and created possible future scenarios for my business. He became a teacher and motivator through his stories and his abilities to ask the right questions; questions that really made me think deeply about what I wanted.

Five years later I am enjoying success as the owner of Johnson School of Art. I continue to rely on Scott for issues that occur within my business. He is an excellent teacher and motivator with an endless source of energy.

I attended Scott’s seminar in November 2008, after having been in business for nine months. I started a small, home-based business in order to stay home with my children, but I had no business background. I worked like crazy for those nine months, advertising in every market, without success.

Twenty minutes into Scott’s seminar, I developed my Mission Statement. I never knew how to answer when someone asked what I did. I always stumbled around the words to describe my unique business. Now, I can say, with confidence, that I “Create Sweet Memories for Life’s Sweetest Moments.”

Since attending Scott’s seminar, I have re-evaluated my business practices, including my Symbiotic Relationships. I have found my niche, found a “school” to swim with, and I am now able to keep my “compass” set on my “buoy markers”. This has done incredible things for my business. I am now able to focus on more important things in my life, as my business is on the right course.

Thank you, Scott, for creating such a wonderful tool!

Scott is one of those individuals that can both get you excited about pretty much anything while taking a very unique approach on how he looks at the world. After thoroughly enjoying and learning from his book, Climbing the Food Chain, I had the pleasure to discuss life and business strategies with the author on a fishing trip.

I was intrigued to learn of the close relationships between the ocean seas and the “seas of business”. In addition, Scott’s early years, hard-work, and dedication to his business laid the foundation to his deep understandings and views for this book.

If you are at all interested or fascinated about business and how to make the most of it, Climbing the Food Chain is a must read…
